What is Gap Concept in Poker?

The Gap Concept was first introduced by David Sklansky, and contends that a player needs a better hand to call a raise, when compared to open raising themselves. For example, open raising on the button with A5 offsuit is a standard play if the action has folded to you, but calling on the button with A5o is almost never a good play.
