What is Match the Stack in Poker?

« View All Poker Terms

Match the stack means that you can add on in a cash game for as much money as the current largest stack at the table. In live poker, having the ability to match the stack can lead to big games as the night goes on. If you see a table with a $500 buyin, but the ability to match the stack, it means that if a player at the table has $1,500 in front of them, you can buy-in for up to that amount.

Some tables will agree to go all in blind on the first hand, so that after a player wins the pot every other player can rebuy and match their stack, allowing for a much bigger game.
