What is HORSE in Poker?

HORSE is a poker game that alternates between five different game variants of limit poker that is commonly played at higher limits or in high-stakes tournaments. HORSE is an acronym that stands for:

H – Texas Hold’em

O – Omaha Hi/Lo Split-Eight or Better,

R – Razz

S – Seven Card Stud, and

E – Seven Card Stud Hi/Low Split-Eight or Better 

Alternative Meanings:
  • Horse

    A horse in poker is someone who is staked by another player. This means that someone else has put up all or part of their buyin, and can expect a return on all profits that their horse makes. Some backers have entire stables of horses, meaning there are many players playing under them.
