5 Tweets from Doyle Brunson That Are SO 2017

A look inside the Twitter game of poker legend Texas Dolly.

Doyle Brunson is one of the most accomplished poker players of all time.

The 84-year old poker player and celebrity has earned ten World Series of Poker bracelets over the course of his illustrious career including two Main Event titles — while also writing one of the most innovative poker strategy books of its era when he originally published Super/System in 1978.

Texas Dolly has remained a fixture in the live and online poker community at a time when many senior citizens are still learning about the usefulness of third-party content distribution platforms and evolving social media climate.

With that in mind, here is a look at 5 Tweets from the Godfather of Poker Doyle Brunson that represent Poker 2017.

#5: Reaction to Tom Dwan’s PAD Run-Good

Early last month, ‘Jungleman’ Dan Cates stated on Doug Polk’s YouTube channel that high stakes TV personality Tom Dwan has paid Cates between $700k-$800k USD in penalties for postponing the Durrrr Challenge that began way back in 2010.

The revelation paved the way for Dwan’s return to televised poker one week later as a leading cast member of Poker After Dark, where Dwan felted fellow high roller Antonio Esfandiari in an Aces vs. Kings matchup for a $697,100 USD haul.

The hand caught the attention of award-winning podcast host Joey Ingram, who wondered aloud if any poker player in the world has run hotter on TV than the former online poker superstar.

Thankfully that’s when Doyle entered the picture — informing his 430,000 Twitter followers that he can personally relate.

#4: Texas Dolly Vintage Underwear

This one takes a bit of research but back on Valentine’s Day, Doyle Brunson gave a heartfelt shout-out to his wife of more than 60 years as he was Tweeting about Jason Mercier‘s #HermitLife shopping experience.

Doyle has consistently expressed how grateful he is to have enjoyed the company of his lifelong partner, Louise Brunson. However, that would be put to the test less than two months later when Big Brother 17 third place finisher Vanessa Rousso was on her way to Florida for a poker event and received a “looking good” Tweet from the Texas legend.

Rousso responded with a tasteful Tweet of her own to see if there was any social media gameplay to be had, and Doyle Brunson most certainly didn’t disappoint. The chest of drawers Tweet was liked by over 100 fans.

#3: Daniel Negreanu 2017 WSOP Short Offer

Once upon a time, live poker tournament grinders could get 180-to-1 odds on winning three WSOP bracelets in a single year. Apparently those days are long gone though, as the world’s all-time live event cash prize money leader Daniel Negreanu could only stomach even money for potentially accomplishing such a feat at the 2017 Series.

As Kid Poker put it to his Twitter followers, “Real ballers don’t need odds.” So as Ben Lamb patted himself on the back for a well-played prop bet, Texas Dolly decided to help out his oft-times social media rival with a goodwill gesture of his own — just in case Negreanu wasn’t joking (it was confirmed later that he wasn’t).

True to form, Daniel Negreanu insisted on adamantly defending his stance and refused to allow Texas Dolly to make good on what some in the community would define as a favor.

The total monetary value of DNegs’ 2017 WSOP poker community handout is unknown to this day.

#2: Hasn’t Doug Heard of VHS?

If you follow Upswing Poker pro Doug Polk on social media, you’re aware that the Twitch and YouTube live stream MTT record holder has forsaken online high roller events for the opportunity to share his insights on NFL football each Sunday.

And although that has been an enjoyable experience for the Upswing Lab creator these past few weeks, commercials have legitimately hampered what would otherwise be seamless real-time communication with his fans.

Luckily, Doyle Brunson has a solution to this. The games can be “taped” through a Video Home System device, and then Doug can “fast-forward” through the content to skip the commercials.

#1: WSOP Prop Bet Flare Up

If you weren’t on #PokerTwitter this past week, you missed an epic flare up between Kid Poker and reigning King of The Hill champion Phil Hellmuth.

Hellmuth recently used his “White Magic” live-read skills to defeat both Polk and Jungleman at a Poker Night in America event that was broadcast live from Rivers Casino Schenectady — and let his followers know that he is the “top seed” in No Limit Hold’em tournaments.

The Poker Brat even claimed to have the “best ROI in history” as he was countering Negreanu’s newfound respect for younger tournament specialists such as German phenom Fedor Holz.

So obviously a prop bet proposal was the next logical step.

The high profile disagreement on poker skill caught the attention of Texas Dolly, who showed initial interest in getting involved in what would be one of the most intriguing prop bets in modern-day poker.

However, fans may have to wait until next year’s WSOP rolls around to find out whether big name poker pros will book such real money action.
