Cards that are, by rule, dealt face up. In Seven Card Stud, for example, a seven card hand is made up of three downcards and four upcards.

The opposite of downswing, an upswing is a period of winning more than is expected. “I’m on a 15 buy-in upswing over my last 2,500 hands.”

Similar to a dog, an underdog is a player who is not mathematically favored to win the pot. For example, AA is favored to win 80 percent of the time against KK preflop, so KK is a 4-to-1 underdog in this situation.

Under the Gun (aka UTG) is the position of the player sitting directly clockwise of the Big Blind, and the first to act preflop. At a nine-handed table, the positions directly clockwise of UTG are known as UTG+1 and UTG+2.
