Top Trending Poker Media News

Poker media news & stories you won’t want to miss in August 2017.

Following weeks of anticipation, the Poker Night King of The Hill heads-up competition is finally here. Starting today, our very own Doug Polk along with Phil Hellmuth, Dan Cates and Frank Kassela will take to the Rivers Casino Schenectady felts and conduct real money battle in front of a live stream audience expected to be in the thousands. While we’re preparing to watch the action on the @PokerNightTV Twitch channel, here is a look at some of the most interesting poker media news stories that are trending this month.

Elton Tsang, Nosebleed Stakes & Leon Tsoukernik

For the second time in as many months, King’s Casino operator and 2014 GPI Industry Person of The Year Leon Tsoukernik is being accused by a high stakes poker player of ignoring a multi-million dollar gambling debt.

This time, the accusations have been made by young poker phenom and 2016 “Big One for One Drop Extravaganza” winner Elton Tsang via CalvinAyre.com.

In a revealing interview with CA’s poker writer and consultant Lee Davy, Tsang claims that he is owed roughly $2,000,000 USD by Tsoukernik dating back to a nosebleed private game which took place during last year’s Barcelona showcase tournament series hosted by PokerStars.

The interview-style article is a captivating read, and serves as additional material for poker news junkies who have been keeping up with a separate $2 million dispute between Tsoukernik and “Aussie” Matt Kirk which could play out in the Clark County (Las Vegas) court system.

More Record-Setting at PokerStars Championship Barcelona

Speaking of Barcelona, the PokerStars LIVE brand is enjoying its share of success this month as the PokerStars Championship Barcelona breaks its own attendance records.

Dirk Oetzmann of PokerListings reports that the growing popularity of the poker tournament series formerly known as EPT Barcelona could be “proof that PokerStars is edging further away from the competition in the live arena.”

Team GrindNation live streaming personality and Pot Limit Omaha expert Fernando Habegger is pumped for his first-ever PSCB Main Event, and is giving away 10% of his Net Profit in the €5,000 + €300 buy-in Main Event. https://twitter.com/JNandezPoker/status/899652516727730176

Will the PokerStars LIVE momentum carry into next year’s PCA event in the Bahamas? Only time will tell, but Barcelona’s ability to attract such a large group of poker tournament enthusiasts serves as an endorsement for the company whose online poker offering has come under continuous fire since late 2015.

Will Kassouf Speech Play Gains Another Fan

Poker pro & “Speech Play” expert Will Kassouf

The debate on whether Will Kassouf’s live poker table antics are good or bad for poker rages on, but regardless of where you stand on the issue, it’s good to know the affable Englishman has convinced yet another for-profit player.

PartTimePoker contributor and “White Magic” believer Keith Woernle recently published an op-ed on How Will Kassouf’s Style Made Me a Better Player that drives home the former World Poker Tour producer’s thoughts on using “live reads” to increase profit at the brick & mortar felts.

Kassouf, who debuted this week on Poker After Dark, has amassed a large community following thanks to his multiple TV appearances during the 2016 World Series of Poker Main Event.
