Beneath the Cards
Poker's most feared cash-game player on the climb, the scandal, and what obsession actually cost him.
The Book
About Beneath the Cards
Garrett Adelstein spent close to 25 years at the top of the highest cash games in the world, and Beneath the Cards is his account of how he got there and what it took out of him. The memoir tracks his path from online prodigy to livestream regular, through underground games where huge sums moved in minutes.
It also deals directly with "Jack-Four," the hand his publisher calls the most controversial in poker history, and with the death threats, financial damage, and public backlash that followed it.
The book is not only about poker. Garrett writes candidly about perfectionism, depression, body dysmorphia, and his appearance on Survivor, and about the question that arrives when winning stops being enough.
