« View All Poker Terms
Posting overblinds in order to raise the limit of a hand to stimulate play is called a Kill Pot, and is oftentimes the result of a player winning consecutive pots. Can also be a half-kill. For example, in a $4/$8 game, a kill pot would raise the next hand to $8/$16 limits, whereas a half-kill would raise it to $6/$12. Kill Pots are almost always found in limit variations of poker, with a mandatory bet size on all streets.
In most kill pots the player who has posted the overblind (the kill) is the last player to act, no matter what position they start in. However, this can vary depending on the location of the game.
