PokerGO and the Top 5 Poker Central Shows

When Poker Central stopped its television channel after only a year of operation back in 2016, many people viewed this as a failed experiment; however, all it needed was a bit of reworking. The first thing Poker Central did was acquire the rights to broadcast WSOP final tables along with Twitch. These rights were formerly exclusive to ESPN. Then, Poker Central announced its PokerGO App and PokerGO.com launch to televise other programming.

PokerGO.com is a streaming service of various shows from Poker PROductions that provides more than 100 days of live poker programming each year as well as 24/7 access to a variety of other shows, series, and exclusive content to poker enthusiasts everywhere.

When it began, PokerGO was hailed as the Netflix for poker wherein subscribers would have access to exclusive poker programs. However, this digital video subscription service has morphed into something much more with its dedicated audience and exceptional niche content.

After a brief introduction to PokerGO, we’ll take a look at the Top 5 Poker Central shows.

What is PokerGo?

PokerGO is an online membership venue that—for $10 per month, or $99 for an annual membership—provides poker enthusiasts with exclusive live access to the biggest and best poker tournaments across the globe and other original programming. From the highest stakes to the best players to the hottest venues in the entire poker world, PokerGO is a fabulous service. Both membership options provide a seven-day free trial or a 15-minute PokerGO free trial with a PokerGO.com promo code.

Content is divided into four broad categories: featured shows, original series such as Pokerography and the Super High Roller Bowl, event replays such as WSOP final tables, and “the vault” that contains Poker after Dark and Face the Ace episodes as well as documentaries that subscribers can watch live or on-demand in HD anytime on their favorite devices.

Poker Central shows

Poker fans will love the variety and volume of content available from Poker Central through PokerGO. From classic programs to original series to live-streamed tournaments, Poker Central programming provides the best live and on-demand poker content for both casual and passionate poker fans across the globe.

For example, beginning 1 August 2018, PokerGO will present the highly acclaimed and wildly popular Poker after Dark. Filmed at Las Vegas’ Aria Resorts and Casino, Poker after Dark features poker’s biggest stars, largest smacktalkers, and most unique personalities in a high-stakes, six-handed game where viewers are privy to all the goings-on of an eclectic home game.

With the variety of programming out there, we decided to compile a list of the best programs. Thus, in no specific order, here are the top 5 Poker Central shows based on popularity and content available today.

1. Poker Masters

Since its debut in September 2017, Poker Masters has been a hit. Today, PokerGO subscribers can watch all condensed episodes of the program wherein pros vie for a highly coveted purple jacket, not unlike the green jacket awarded in the PGA Masters Tournament.

Poker Masters revolutionized high-roller play with a week-long tournament of some of the highest stakes poker tournaments in the world. Each event offers a seven-figure prize pool and the opportunity to pocket millions of dollars is available daily. However, only the best player will be named the Poker Masters Champion and be awarded the purple jacket.

The inaugural season featured such popular pros as Doug Polk, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Fedor Holz, and Bryn Kenney vying for more than $13 million. Ultimately, German poker pro Steffen Sontheimer emerged victorious, capturing nearly $2.75 million and the stylish purple jacket.

2. Super High Roller Bowl

This year’s Big One for One Drop champion and new reigning All-Time Money Leader Justin Bonomo also emerged victorious in the Poker Central-sponsored 2018 Super High Roller Bowl held in May at the Aria Casino and Resort in Las Vegas. Bonomo added a cool $5 million to his rapidly growing 2018 prize winnings.

Seriously, who doesn’t enjoy watching truly high-stakes poker in which millions of dollars change hands in the blink of an eye? For some of us—myself included—living vicariously through these amazing players is the closest we will get to that ridiculous amount of money.

This wildly popular program is streamed live on PokerGO and replays of this season and seasons past are available in PokerGO’s vault.

3. Pokerography

Pokerography is an original documentary series that provides personal and intimate portraits of some of today’s top poker pros. From their early years to their entry into the poker world to their amazing success and renown, Pokerography is a definite must-watch for poker fans everywhere.

Among the players profiled include Phil Hellmuth, Antonio Esfandiari, Mike Sexton, Jennifer Harman, Chris Moneymaker, Nick Schulman, Eric Seidel,  and Phil Laak—among many others. Poker Central does upload some Pokerography episodes to YouTube, but once you start watching, you just can’t stop. If you are a fan of documentaries and personal profiles, this show alone is worth the $10 per month PokerGO.com membership.

4. Hand Histories

This intriguing original six-part “docu-series“ provides poker fans with a rare, behind-the-scenes peek into the virtual rollercoaster that is poker by examining some of the most famous poker hands ever televised. In this program, the players involved in the hands narrate the action and their own feelings about their truly iconic wins and losses.

5. Deep Issues

This is, indeed, a fascinating program and truly merits inclusion into the top 5 Poker Central shows list. The premise is simple—albeit somewhat weird. Pros are seated in a massage chair while Drea Renee “works out the kinks” interviewing these players on a number of topics. Presumably, the more relaxed one is, the more info s/he will disclose, somewhat akin to a drunk relating his/her woes to the friendly local bartender but without the elevated blood-alcohol content.

Among those who have disclosed their own deep issues include Doug Polk, Maria Ho, Brian Rast, Liv Boeree, Fedor Holz, Ali Nejad—and many more.

The bottom line

Poker Central has truly hit a home run with PokerGO and its variety of intriguing, interesting, and fun programming that encompasses all things poker.
