Foxwoods Poker Room, located in Mashantucket, Connecticut, has been a staple of the New England poker scene for several decades. It is the largest poker room on the east coast.

While Foxwoods has long dominated the local poker market, the recent additions of Encore Boston Harbor and MGM Springfield in Massachusetts have cut into Foxwoods’ market share. Before this, most of Foxwoods’ competition came from the nearby Mohegan Sun.

In response to this, Foxwoods decided to move the poker room into a smaller area, cutting the number of cash game tables but keeping the number of tournament tables the same.

Even though the room is in a new location, it still has a similar look and feel to the original. The biggest difference is that the cage is farther away, so you have to walk out of the room to cash in and out.

No matter what kind of poker player you are, Foxwoods has something for you. The room offers a variety of small stakes to high stakes cash games in addition to many weekly tournaments and larger tournament series’ throughout the year.

Foxwoods Poker Room can be found at 350 Trolley Line Boulevard, Mashantucket, CT 06338.

To attract poker players to the cash tables, Foxwoods Poker offers the best promotions in the area. Foxwoods offers a high hand promotion on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday that pays out $250 every 30 minutes. This keeps the games packed with action at all hours of the promotion.

The most popular promotion that Foxwoods offers is Monday Madness, which happens once per month and awards $500 every 20 minutes to the player with the highest hand of that time stretch.

In addition to this, Foxwoods Poker also has a massive bad beat jackpot. The promotion routinely reaches six-figures and is triggered when someone loses a hand with pocket eights or better. (I am still a little bitter because the last time I played cash there it was hit for about $70,000 at the table next to me).

Foxwoods Poker Tournaments

Foxwoods has the best regular tournament schedule in the area, offering several tournaments every day of the week with different buy-ins for people that play different stakes.

Its most popular tournament is the Wednesday night $120, $15,000 guarantee. The tournament attracts players from hours away and regularly exceeds the $15K guarantee by a significant margin.

Foxwoods Poker also hosts several of its own series’ throughout the year that offer larger buy-in tournaments with guarantees up to $500,000. These are extremely popular and are filled with recreational players and pros alike.

In addition to this, Foxwoods Poker Room is also an annual marquee stop for the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOP Circuit). In the past, Foxwoods was a regular stop of the World Poker Tour (WPT).

Fun fact: Even though he only has two cashes at Foxwoods Poker Room, popular poker pro and commentator Nick Schulman is the all-time tournament money leader at Foxwoods with $3,032,152 in cashes. He took down a $10K WPT event in 2005 for $2,167,500 and placed second in a 2007 WPT $10K for $864,652.

Foxwoods Poker Amenities

Foxwoods Poker offers comps to poker players at a rate of $1/hour. In addition to this, the room gives players complimentary drinks and valet parking. Foxwoods does not deliver food to your table, but a nearby food court and buffet are good options if you need to get up and take a break.

The Bottom Line

Overall, Foxwoods Poker gets a five-star review. Having played dozens of sessions at Foxwoods over the past few years, it is no surprise to me that many people consider it to be one of the best rooms on the east coast. The room is packed with 24/7 action in both cash games and tournaments, and the wide variety of stakes make it a great option for all poker players.
